Delaware Jr Pacers coaches are expected to:
Prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of athletes
Teach skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship
Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture
Model respectful behavior at all times
Winning matters — but character, growth, and safety matter more.
Coaches must:
Treat athletes, families, officials, volunteers, and fellow coaches with respect
Follow all league, organizational, and safety policies
Communicate clearly, calmly, and professionally
Maintain appropriate boundaries with athletes and families
Use instruction and correction that is constructive and age-appropriate
Be prepared, organized, and on time for practices and games
Place athlete safety above competition or playing time
Follow all safety protocols and concussion guidelines
Never force an athlete to play through injury
Provide an environment free from fear, intimidation, or humiliation
Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly
The following behaviors will not be tolerated:
Yelling at, demeaning, or verbally abusing athletes
Physical punishment or threats of any kind
Discrimination or harassment based on race, gender, ability, or background
Use of profanity toward athletes, officials, or spectators
Engaging in confrontations with parents or officials
Public criticism of athletes, coaches, officials, or the organization (including social media)
Set clear expectations with families at the start of the season
Address concerns respectfully and professionally
Avoid discussing issues during games or practices
Direct unresolved concerns to program leadership or the board
Coaches are held to a high standard. Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in:
Verbal or written warnings
Coaching review or probation
Suspension
Removal from coaching duties
